The Avocent¨ SwitchView SC640-001 offers proven, secure access for any desktop environment where security is mandatory. NIAP validated to EAL2+, the SC640 secure KVM switch provides multiple levels of physical security, and controlled USB connectivity (limited to keyboard and mouse only). Consolidate multiple workstations of varying security classification levels with one keyboard, monitor and mouse without compromising network security.

The Avocent SwitchView SC640 switch includes multiple layers of security including tamper-proof hardware security at the desktop. In addition, the SC640 ensures that only the keyboard and mouse function on target computers, by constantly monitoring all devices attached to the console ports. The SC640 ignores communication from all other USB devices (such as flash drives, hard disk drives, cameras and printers) when switching data to the target. In situations where the only USB port(s) are those enabled on the target computer, the SwitchView SC switch will not introduce security vulnerabilities.

Avocent SC640 Features & Benefits:

  • NIAP Common Criteria validated to EAL2+.
  • Software Security. U.S. designed firmware: allows only keyboard and mouse human interface devices (HIDs) to switch to the target computers. Devices considered unsecure, such as flash drives or other mass storage devices, cameras and all other USB devices, are strictly prohibited by the switch firmware.
  • Physical security:
    • Tamper-evident tape: A visual indication of an attempt to gain access to the internal components of the switch
    • Chassis intrusion detection: Prevents malicious tampering with the switch. If the cover is removed from the switch, the switch becomes inoperable and the LEDs flash
    • Locked memory: Prevents tampering and reprogramming of the firmware
  • Secure channels: Four fully secure channels isolated to 60db. Safely switch between computers operating at different classification levels - without compromising network security.
  • Clears buffer: Automatically clears the keyboard buffer immediately after data is transmitted through the switch, so no data is ever left in the switch

This switch is the recommended replacement for the End-of-Life SC4 UAD KVM (SC4UAD / SC4UAD-001)

Question: What is the warranty for this item? (SC640-001)
Answer: The warranty is 3 years.

Question: Do you mail to an APO address? (Military)
Answer: Thank you for your inquiry.
Yes, we do ship to APO addresses.

Question: Does this support dual DVI monitors?
Answer: Thank you for your inquiry. This unit supports dual-link DVI connections, but does not support dual monitors (dual-head). The dual monitor version of this switch is the SC740 https://www.kvm-switches-online.com/sc740.html.

Question: If the kvm ports are connected to computers using DVI-I Dual link cables, can I use a Monitor display with a Single link DVI-D I/O ?
Answer: Thank you for your inquiry. Unfortunately, this KVM will not do any active conversion of signals. To use a DVI-D monitor, the server will need to supply a digital video signal as well. In terms of using single link or dual link, we believe it would be best to use a single link cable throughout the system, if that is the limiting factor.

Question: Can USB extenders be used to put keyboards and mice further away? \
Answer: Thank you for your inquiry Greg,

They absolutely can. Here is a link to some USB extenders you may want to consider: www.kvm-switches-online.com/icron.html. Alternatively, you can extend your whole user console (monitor, keyboard & mouse) using a KVM extender: www.kvm-switches-online.com/dvi-kvm-extenders.html.

If you would like further help choosing an extender, please feel free to contact your KVM Switches Online representative at 1-877-586-6654, at sales@kvm-switches-online.com, or via our online Chat functionality.

Question: Can one switch between systems using the keyboard (other similar KVMs use CTRL + 1 etc)
Answer: Thank you for your inquiry,

Secure KVMs do not support Hot Key switching as a security feature - hot key requires active buffering of the signal which could be a threat. However, we do have a wide range of other KVMs that support Hot Key that you can sort through using our KVM Selector.

If you would like a recommendation based on your setup, please feel free to contact your KVM Switches Online sales representative directly at 1-877-586-6654, at sales@kvm-switches-online.com, or via our online Chat functionality.
