Controlling the DPN-4Quad

The DPN-4Quad is plug-and-play, easy to install into any AV setup and use right out of the box! Once set up, the DPN-4Quad is controlled with:

  • Front Panel Buttons: Two simple source selection buttons that make it easy to switch command between different computers.
  • USB Keyboard Hotkey Commands: Simple hotkey commands over PC that offer more robust control of the DPN-4Quad.
  • TCP/IP Web Console: Connect to an online interface that offers full visual command of the DPN-4Quad's switching functions.

Full USB Keyboard & Mouse Emulation

The USB keyboard and mouse emulation utilized by DPN-4Quad provides accurate and quick source switching by means of keyboard hotkeys and mouse actions. DPN-4Quad imitates the presence of a keyboard and mouse for every attached computer through a USB cable. This is essential as it simulates the existence of the keyboard and mouse to all the computers while switching without interruptions.

Question: Can I use this to run a triple monitor setup instead of a quad.
Answer: Thank you for your inquiry. The Smart AVI DPN-4Quad will allow you to run your triple monitor setup with, and across at least 4 different computers/servers. You can also visit the Triple Head KVM page for triple monitor specific KVM's, although HDMI video may not be an option.

Question: Does this switch support 1080p @ 144hz for my gaming monitors?
Answer: Thank you for your inquiry,

It would not. The SmartAVI DPN-4Quad would theoretically support up to 1080p @ 120Hz.

You may want to take a look at SmartAVI's new UHDN series instead, which features greater bandwidth: i.e. SmartAVI UHDN-4P-QUADS.

Please note, these resolutions are yet to be tested on these units and gaming equipment sometimes uses different hardware, so we are unable to guarantee compatibility.

Question: Do you ship to APO, AP addresses?
Answer: Thank you for your inquiry,

We do indeed. During check out, simply select the "APO/FPO" shipping method:
  • Standard Lead Times for APO/FPO orders are 2-3 weeks
  • Shipping costs are subject to change based on the location from which the order will ship from.
  • Some warehouses are not set up to ship to APO/FPO Addresses, when this happens, the order will be shipped to our headquarters location and then out to the delivery address. Should this be the case, please note that additional shipping charges will be added after order placement.

Question: Do you have a 4 Port Quad Monitor 4K DisplayPort KVM that will work at 60HZ?
Answer: Thank you for your inquiry,

We do not currently offer a 4-Port Quad-Monitor 4K/60hz KVM with DisplayPort inputs, but we do have a HDMI version (which can be adapted to DisplayPort): SmartAVI UHDN-4P-QUADS.

Question: Does the DPN-4Quad support 2048 x 1536 / QXGA resolution (3 megapixels of bandwidth) per head?
Answer: Thank you for your inquiry,

We have confirmed with SmartAVI that the DPN-4Quad does indeed support 2048x1536 (QXGA) resolution / 3 megapixels of bandwidth per head.

Question: I'm looking at a couple Quad Monitor KVMs on your site. Namely the UHDN-4P-QUADS and the DPN-4Quad-S models, and had a couple questions. The intent of the device is to share a set of diagnostic medical monitors (resolution of 2048x2560). I see the only difference between the two is the inputs (Displayport vs HDMI) and refresh rate (60Hz vs 30Hz). If I required a 60Hz refresh rate, I would have to go to the UHDN-4P-QUADS model with a couple adapters? What adapters would that be, and what functionality would I be loosing using the adapters? Would the adapters support the resolution, I'm looking for?
Answer: Thank you for your inquiry,

That is correct, only the UHDN-4P-QUAD would support 2048x2560 resolution at 60Hz.

For DisplayPort sources, you could use for example this TrippLite DisplayPort 1.2 to HDMI 2.0 adapter which supports full 2048 x 2560 @ 60Hz. There shouldn't be any lost functionality such as loosing EDID or DPCP in using this adapter, but please note, support of the resolution and functionality would depend on which adapter you would use. We cannot guarantee functionality of a third party adapter with a SmartAVI KVM.

Question: Can you use "DP to DVI adapter" out of the KVM to an older DVI monitor
Answer: Thank you for your inquiry,

It is definitely possible you could use a DP to DVI adapter, which we offer, with the SmartAVI DPN-4Quad; We have customers who have done this with DisplayPort KVMs. That being said, due to variability in environments -source devices, cables, adapters, monitor used, etc.-, and the fact that issues with specifically DisplayPort conversion are not uncommon, we cannot guarantee adapter compatibility with any specific application.

Alternatively, you may be safer adapting HDMI to DVI for your monitor, using the related and similar SmartAVI D2H-4P-Quad 4-Port 4K DP to HDMI KVM Switch (4x DisplayPort Input - 1x HDMI output + Supports 4K up to 30Hz).

Question: If connected with NVidia GSync or AMD FreeSync, will this allow the freesync to continue functioning?
Answer: Thank you for your inquiry,

According to the vendor, both G-Sync and Freesync seem to be compatible with the DPN-4Quad. The DPN units can support up to 2560x1440 at 60Hz or 3840x2160 at 30Hz. However if you are looking to run a resolution at more than 60 Hz, it is most likely not going to work with the DPN.
